Believed to have been built in the year 701 AD, Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine venerates the spirits of Emperor Nintoku, Emperor Ojin, and the legendary hero Takenouchi Sukune no Mikoto. Celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2010, it holds a special place in the hearts of locals as the “great guardian of Nagoya.” Nestled in the Sakae district, the shrine's lush precincts, bursting with greenery, create an unexpected oasis in the heart of the city. In spring, a breathtaking explosion of cherry blossoms graces the area in front of the shrine. Capture the stately atmosphere in front of the main shrine and the enchanting beauty of the vermilion corridors adorned with torii gates—excellent spots for timeless photography.
